Physical Chemistry I, Summer B Term, is taught by Professor David A. Micha of the UF Chemistry Department.
Course description: This is the first part of a two-semester series in Physical Chemistry. It covers thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, and their molecular interpretation, and their applications to phenomena in gases, liquids, solids, and at surfaces . The emphasis is on concepts and applications to molecular problems. Students must have knowledge of calculus and some differential equations. Part B deals with chemical kinetics, its molecular interpretation, and some applications.

Grades: Based on Progress Test 1, 25 points; Progress Test 2, 25 points; Progress Test 3, 25 points; five Homework Assignments, 25 points. The homework is due one week after it is given, and answers will be posted in the NPB, ground floor across from room 1222. The scale of grades is: A: 100-80%; B: 79-70%; C: 69-60%; D: 59-50%; F: below 50%. Attendance and participation in class will be factors for grades in borderline cases. The final grade for Summer term C will be the average of grades for Terms A and B.
Tests: Test 1 on Friday, July 13; test 2 on Friday, July 27; test 3 on Wednesday, August 8. All exams in class at the regular meeting time.

Policy on class attendance: Students are expected to regularly attend class and to be prompt in arriving to class. Class attendance will be randomly checked, and it will be used to decide the final grade in borderline cases.
Make-up exams: Make-up exams for progress tests and the final exam will be given to a student who needs them due to a serious conflict involving the student or a close relative, provided the conflict is documented.
Students with disabilities: These students must be registered with the Dean of Students Office, which will provide documentation for the instructor when requesting accommodations.
