Who
am I?
Wilfredo
Ortiz--Hernández was born in the city of Ponce, located
in the south region of the island of Puerto Rico.
Wilfredo loves music, specially tropical music. We are talking
about "salsa'', "merengue'', "bomba'' and "plena''.
And with that it comes the dancing part, no question about that.
His other passion... sports, with a special place for basketball.
GO GATORS!
What about his chemistry career? Well, at the age of 17 he began
studies in chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez
Campus (U.P.R.). During his senior year at U.P.R. he joined the
research group of Dr. Gustavo E. López to do undergraduate
research in computational and theoretical chemistry. In the summer
of 1997, Wilfredo completed his B.S. in chemistry and in the fall
of that year he enrolled in the Chemistry Department at U.P.R.
as a graduate student and continued doing research with Dr. López.
In the spring of 1999, before completing graduate studies at U.P.R.,
Wilfredo moved to Gainesville, FL, and enrolled in the Chemistry
Department at the University of Florida (UF). He joined the Quantum
Theory Project and is working as a graduate student under the
supervision of Dr. Jeffrey L. Krause and Dr. Adrian E. Roitberg.
