A Personal Interest
In my spare time, I collect mint Danish stamps and associated "stuff". My interests include:
- advertising stamps (reklam mærker) - panes and complete booklets
- booklets
- classical stamps & back-of-the-book
- encased postage (frimærkepenge)
- marginal numbers, hand written, on Christian IX and Frederik VIII stamps (see below)
- local post from Fyn (Odense & Svendborg)
- postal stationery (aerograms, korrespondensekort, &
wrappers)
I'd be happy to hear from
anyone interested in these things.
A listing of my own holdings of philatelic literature,
concentrated on Danish subjects, is here. I am not a dealer and have nothing
for sale, but I'd be happy to provide Xerox copies of short exerpts of anything
of interest.
In chasing down various arcane philatelic interests, I have occasion
to find various libraries with good Danish philatelic holdings. In order to
save some of you time, I have compiled a
list of libraries
that I have found useful.
I have compiled a short glossary of Danish terms which one finds in various stamp catalogs. I hope this makes things a bit easier to root around in catalogs!
My meager, but hopefully growing, philatelic curriculum vitae including my list of publications is also included.
As a sample of my interests, here are a few odds and ends of somewhat less
usual material in my collection:
- Here is a small sample of my collection (all these are duplicates) of
frimaerkepenge. The images are large, and the notations on the right are catalog
numbers using Jørgen Sømod's numbering system:
frimærkepenge1,
and
frimærkepenge2
- Here is a scan of some
fourblocks with a hand written, but engraved, plate numbers. An article on this subject seems to be developing. I also have
several examples of the
the
small figure plate numbers,. I haven't done much with these as yet, and
would appreciate any information , or references to information, that anyone
might have on them.
- Here is a scan of some proofs of
Danish
returmærker, and a
full
sheet of the same. Maybe I'll get the regular issues up some day too.
- Danish korresponcencekort are also one of my interests, and here is a scan of Ringstrøm #51B, oplag 68, which is the only known unused example. There is also a single used example known. (NB The image is large for clarity.)
And here is my manko (want) list!
Some interesting and useful philatelic links are:
- DFF, Danmarks Filatelist Forbund
- KPK, the Copenhagen Stamp Club
- Toke Nørby's website, that
has a wealth of information about Danish stamps and lots of interesting links, including other collectors' want lists.
- PostDanmark, the Danish Postal
Service
- The American Scandinavian Collectors
Club
- Jørgen Sømod's
website, which contains a good deal of information about frimærkepenge
This part of the website is just under development, but I hope things will
improve!
