Charging algorithmThe algorithm for calculating the charges is as follows: The total amount to cover the maintenance contract is split, currently in equal parts, among CPU charge, permanent (home) disk charges, and workstation charges. From the available resources of each a cost per units for CPU time, permanent (home) disk space and workstation use is computed. Pages printed are $.15 per page for color pages on the Dell printers. Color pages on the Lanier are $.25 per page and $1.00 per transparancy and $5.00 per DesignJet 42 inch x 5 feet plot. Workstations are charged with a rate of $0.00 for desktops. Disk space is charged at about $15.00 per GB per day. CPU usage is charged at $1.00 per Peta (10**15) floating point operations performed. The total number of operations used per month is computed per CPU used. Each CPU is rated at the theoretical maximum of floating point operations it can perform per second times the number of seconds the CPU is used.
